Rick Guiles

Ricky Lee Guiles, 58, of Union, Iowa, passed away Monday, October 25, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Community Church in Union, Iowa, with Reverend Rick Schill officiating. Burial will be held privately at Sheppard Cemetery in Gifford, Iowa. Visitation will be held at the Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2010 with a Masonic Service conducted by the Montague Lodge # 117 beginning at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family.


Rick was born March 31, 1952 in Eldora, Iowa, to his parents Harold and Colleen Guiles. He was raised on a farm in Union, Iowa. He began kindergarten in Union; however in 1958 his parents relocated the family to Tucson, Arizona due to Rick’s severe allergies and asthma. The family moved back to Iowa in 1965. Rick then attended school at Zearing. In 1966 he and his parents moved to the farm north of Union. Rick graduated from Union Whitten Community School in 1970. He went on to graduate from Reisch Auctioneering College and became a great auctioneer. He loved driving a semi for Bill O’Neil and Poncho Simpson. Rick also worked for Pedelty Sales in Eldora.



Rick was united in marriage to his wife Connie Lou Haupt on September 6, 1975 at the Community Church in Union, Iowa. They welcomed their first son, Casey Earl Guiles, on June 15, 1978. A year later they were blessed with a second son, Quenten R. Guiles, who was born on September 25, 1979.



Rick worked for Lou Fleener on a farrow to finish a hog operation. Rick and his family moved to Steamboat Rock where he worked for Daryl Bleeker. In 1986 he began to work for Whink Products Co. He worked there until health issues arose this year which caused him to resign. Upon leaving Whink Products Co. Rick went on to pursue his love of farming.



Rick is survived by his wife, Connie; his sons, Casey (Janelle) and Quenten (his friend Nikki Hanson); his grandchildren, Ava Eileen, Cash Robert, Wyatt Ephram and Westin Isaiah; his father, Harold Guiles and his mother-in-law, Esther Haupt. He is preceded in death by his mother, Colleen Guiles; his father-in-law, Clarence Haupt and his grandparents.
