Richard Steinfeldt

Richard Eugene Steinfeldt, 57, of Eldora , Iowa passed away peacefully on June 18, 2009 at his home from pancreatic cancer. He was under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Monday, June 22, 2009 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora with Pastor David Splett officiating. Cremation will follow with private family burial at a later date. Visitation is from 5 pm – 8 pm on Sunday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.



Richard was born on April 20, 1952 the son of Leo Carl Edward and Sherlotta Mae (Sapp) Steinfeldt. He was raised in the Hardin County area and graduated from Union-Whitten High School in 1970. On January 18, 1974 he married Nanette Sue Rowen at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora. They were married eleven years and from this marriage they had a daughter Molly and a son Luke. On October 25, 1997 Richard married Donna ( Taylor ) Cero from Des Moines . They moved back to the Eldora area in 1999 and shared eleven years of marriage together.



Richard worked over 25 years in the building trade business. He worked fifteen years for Eldora Building Supply (formerly Potgeters Inc.) and for Iowa Lumber in Marshalltown . After his marriage to Donna, he worked for Moehl Millwork in Urbandale , Building Products Inc. in Waterloo , and Spahn & Rose Lumber in Grundy Center after moving back to the Hardin County area. He was currently employed with the Eldora Herald-Ledger as the advertising manager and head of distribution.



Richard loved sports and played volleyball in the early 1980's. He enjoyed college basketball and was an Iowa Hawkeye and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Richard spent his summers tending his flower gardens, fishing, and canoeing down the Iowa River with family and friends. One of Richard’s greatest treasures was spending time with his grandchildren. His sense of humor and the ability to tell a great story will be missed by all who knew him.



Richard is survived by his wife Donna, his children Molly (Darrell) Lloyd and granddaughters, Paige and Emma from Fort Dodge, son Luke Steinfeldt of Cedar Falls, step-daughters Ericka (Ryan) Wood from Scottsdale, Arizona; and Darcy Mettler and two grandsons, Jack and Matthew from Des Moines. Also surviving is his sister Elaine Baugh of Steamboat Rock, and brother, Jerry Steinfeldt from Hubbard, along with several nieces, nephews, and many cousins. Richard was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, St. Paul ’s Good Shepherd Preschool or a charity of your choice.
