Mable Janssen

Mable Janssen, 78, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died from natural causes on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo. Funeral services and Mable's birthday celebration will be at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, February 28 at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck with Pastor Joel Love officiating. Burial will follow at Washington Township Cemetery in Morrison. Visitation is from 4 pm to 7 pm on Monday at French Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.



Mable was born February 28, 1927, at her parent's farm near Wellsburg, daughter of William and Dora (Buss) Harms. She attended Pleasant Valley Township School near Wellsburg and on July 30, 1947 was united in marriage to Louie George Janssen. They remained in the Wellsburg area until 1966 when they moved to Reinbeck.



She received her certificate to work as a nurse's aid, had worked for Schoitz Hospital in Waterloo and for Parkview Manor in Reinbeck, and served as primary caregiver for her brother Willie. Mable loved to cook for family and friends and had cooked for several area restaurants. She was a member of Union Congregational United Church of Christ and made many dozens of cookies for their youth functions. Mable enjoyed playing cards and "wahoo", and received her greatest joy from her family and her very special neighbors.



She is survived by her children, Maxine Stokes and her husband, Tim of Dunkerton, Gerald Janssen of Anchorage, Alaska and Sally Duesenberg and her husband, Doug of Clear Lake; grandson, William Henry Duesenberg of Maple Grove, Minnesota; sister, Mary Stahl of Wellsburg; and by many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her husband, Louie on October 12, 1981; her parents; brothers, Ebling, Dickie, Willie, Tommy, Alfred, and Elmer Harms; sister, Lena Freese; and her best friend, Sally Huisman.
