Lucille Karkosh

October 21, 1912 — June 12, 2006

Lucille Karkosh, 93, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Monday, June 12, 2006, at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Friday, June 16, 2006 at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck, with Pastor Joel Love officiating. Burial will be at Reinbeck Cemetery following the services. Visitation will be Thursday beginning at 12 noon with family present, to greet friends, from 5 pm to 7 pm at French ? Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Union Congregational United Church of Christ.

Lucille Margaret Petersen was born on October 21, 1912 near Dinsdale, IA, daughter of John F. and Bertha (Sell) Petersen. She grew to womanhood in the area of her birth and graduated from Dinsdale High School.

On February 20, 1935, at Waterloo, Lucille was united in marriage to her childhood sweetheart, Mr. Edward A. Karkosh of Voorhies. Together, they owned and operated a trucking line in Voorhies for several years and then built and operated the Voorhies Grain Company until their retirement in 1964. Edward died on December 14, 1997.

Lucille loved doing bookwork, and even though she had no formal training, she was a master at it. She belonged to the Oakleaf Country Club where she was an avid golfer. Lucille also enjoyed her flower gardens around her home. Lucille was a member of the Union Congregational United Church of Christ of Reinbeck where she served on the many committees and boards.

Surviving relatives include 2 sisters, Lavera Behrns of Traer, IA, Gladys ( Jim) Rego of Hayward, CA; many nieces and nephews.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Edward in 1997.
