John Krull

November 27, 1924 — May 1, 2009



John H. Krull, 84, of Wellsburg, Iowa, passed away on Friday May 1 st , 2009 at The Presbyterian Church in Ackley. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday May 5 th , 2009 10:30 am at the Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg, with Pastor Todd Rempe officiating. Burial will follow at the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday May 4 th from 5 to 7 pm at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday.


John Henry Krull was born November 27 th , 1924 in Melrose Township, Iowa, the son of Henry and Tillie (Boelman) Krull. John grew up in Grundy and Hardin counties and graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1942. Right after high school, he enlisted into the Navy and served in World War II.  He met Evelyn VanderWerf and they were married at St. Peter's Evangelical & Reformed Church of Wellsburg on August 26 th , 1949. They settled into the community of Wellsburg and born into this union were 3 children. John worked for George Blythe, Junker Creamery, Mid Equipment and Fisher Controls. He was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church, the local chapter of the American Legion and the United Auto Workers. He enjoyed carpentry, golf, was a go-to handyman for anyone who needed his help and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.


John is survived by his children Bonnie Ambrose of Isanti, MN, Dean of Wellsburg, IA and Patti (Scott) Freese of Stout, IA; grandchildren Lynn, Brent & Cortney Ambrose and Cody & Carli Freese; great-grandchildren Zachary, Nathan, Connor, Baylie & Trevor; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn; his parents; 2 grandchildren Kyle & Neil Ambrose; and a sister JoAnn Schipper.
