JoAnn Meyeraan

May 2, 1935 — July 29, 2006

JoAnn Meyeraan, 71, of the Ackley Presbyterian Village, formerly Wellsburg, died from natural cause on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at the Presbyterian Village. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 1 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Wellsburg, with Pastor Bruce Bailey from the First Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock and the Presbyterian Village officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the services. Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg is in charge of the arrangements.

She was born May 2, 1935 in rural Grundy Center, daughter of Frank and Lydia (Harms) Meyerann. JoAnn had a difficult birth. As she grew she had trouble learning and her words were hard to understand, but she grew up in a large family who learned early on to take care of each other. JoAnn loved living on the farm. There was always plenty to do and she had her chores too, egg gathering, apple picking, feeding the animals and milking the cows. She especially liked baking cakes for family occasions. JoAnn liked creating pretty things with her hands. She embroidered, cross stitched, quilted, and hooked rugs. She did these things knowing they would be a challenge, but loved the idea of giving. Her greatest legacy was that well-worn smile and how it made us feel.

She is survived by five sisters, Rosella (Lyle) Oberender of Jewell, Harriet (Clarence) Murra of Wellsburg, Charlene (Raymond) Crocheck of Boone, Leona (Lowell) Spieker of Farmer City, Illinois, and Kay (Bill) Schall of Carlisle; brother, Gary (Shirley) Meyerann of Grundy Center; sisters-in-law, Marilyn and Joyce Meyerann; and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Vernon and Frank Meyerann Jr.
