Jesse Mann

September 14, 1922 — December 19, 2005

Jesse R. Mann, 83, of Eldora, died from natural causes on Monday, December 19, 2005 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Thursday, December 22, 2005, at the First Baptist Church in Eldora with Pastor Michael Baltich officiating. Burial will follow in the Eldora City Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Eldora.



Jesse was born September 14, 1922 in Hardin County, son of Joseph and Flossie (Volk) Mann. He was raise north of Steamboat Rock and graduated from Ackley High School. In May of 1941 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Hamilton and to this union was born five children. He served with the Army Air Force as a Technical Instructor from December of 1942 until February of 1946. When returning from his military service he attended Iowa State University and received his B.S. degree in animal husbandry.

Jesse's wife, Phyllis died on October 5, 1961 and on October 6, 1962 he married Lois Jingst at the First Baptist Church in Eldora.



He had worked as a feed and fertilizer salesperson for Farm Service in Eldora for 29 years. Jesse also raised hogs and continued to do so after retiring from Farm Service. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Eldora serving as deacon for 30 years and also taught adult Sunday school classes.



Jesse is survived by his wife, Lois; children, Pastor Paul Mann and his wife, Imogene of Roswell, Georgia, Darlene Whims and husband, David of Ankeny, Daryl Mann and wife, Sharon of Maysville, Missouri, and Sara Demoret and husband, Pastor Steve Demoret of Scotts Bluff, Nebraska; sister, Reba Wright and her husband, Oliver of Steamboat Rock; daughter-in-law, Gale Mann Bauer of Mt. Vernon, Washington; and by 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his first wife and mother of his children, Phyllis; son, Jess Allen; his parents; and brothers, John and Robert.
