Jerry Tuttle

October 30, 1940 — June 7, 2008

Jerry L. Tuttle, 67, of Wellsburg, died from natural causes on Saturday, June 07, 2008 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Liberty Baptist Church in Dike with Pastor Dennis Sanders officiating. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 pm at Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg with military honors provided by Wellsburg AMVETS Post #91 and American Legion Post #213. Visitation is from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.



Jerry was born October 30, 1940 in Osceola, Iowa, son of James and Mildred (Smith) Tuttle. He graduated from Rhodes High School in Rhodes, Iowa then served with the U. S. Marine Corp for 4 years. On December 26, 1964 he married Kathy Conaway and they later divorced. On February 14, 1988 Jerry was then united in marriage to Shirley Boone in Lincoln, Iowa. He spent the majority of his adult years in Waterloo and has lived the past six years in Wellsburg.



He worked as a machinist for John Deere in Waterloo, in their drive train division, for over thirty years retiring on April 30, 1997. Jerry was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Cedar Falls, Iowa, the United Auto Workers of Waterloo, and had attended Liberty Baptist Church in Dike for several years. He enjoyed camping, walking, biking, and had over-wintered in Arizona for several years.



Surviving is his wife, Shirley; children, Melissa Ostby of Marion, Melanie (Rick) Schmidt of Cedar Falls, and Matt (Sachie) Tuttle of Osaka, Japan; step-children, Alan (Chris) Boone of Indianola, Randy (Lori) Boone of Hunington Wood, Michigan, Marty (Angie) Boone of Conway, Arkansas, and Renee (Randy) Bishop of Tucson, Arizona; sisters, Judith A. Schroder of Davenport and Karen M. Groves of Kellogg; brothers, Dick (Donna) Tuttle of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Danny (Diana) Tuttle of State Center, Ronnie (Beth) Tuttle of Melbourne, and Skeeter (Barb) Tuttle of Rhodes; by 14 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Wayne Schroder and Larry Groves.
