Jerry Eckhardt

June 17, 1941 — December 28, 2012

Jerry Eckhardt, formerly of Waterloo died December 28, 2012 of mesthelioma.  Jerry was born June 17, 1941 in Traer, IA, son of Dean and Irene (Christiansen) Eckhardt.

Jerry attended Tama County Schools.  He joined the US Navy in 1960 and served eight years as a boiler technician on the USS Grasp, USS Conserver and USS America during the Vietnam War.

Jerry retired from Pepsi-Cola in 1999 as a vending manager after 30 years of employment.
After retirement he and his wife moved to Holiday Lake in Brooklyn and spent their winters in Safety Harbor, FL.

He is survived by his wife Nancy, a daughter Kimberly (Darin) Doerr, two sisters Karen Coke of Keokuk and Patricia Thede of Waterloo, stepchildren Ronald (Patricia) McCullough, Jr., Michael McCullough and Leah Creswell as well as five grandchildren, Nicholas McCullough, Maggie McCullough, Austin Pates, Konner Crew and Jakob Creswell.

Donations may be made to the Cedar Bend Humane Society in Waterloo.

Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He loved life and could always find humor in any situation.
