Jerold Lawler

Jerold D. Lawler, 86, of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, died from natural causes on Sunday, December 07, 2008 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora, Iowa with Father Paul Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Eldora. Visitation will be from 5 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with Rosary services beginning at 5 pm. Visitation will also be held on Thursday at the Church for one hour prior to Mass. Memorials may be directed to his family.




Jerold was born July 14, 1922 near New Providence, Iowa son of Fred and Anna (Brady) Lawler. He was a lifelong resident of Hardin County graduating from New Providence High School in 1941 and enjoyed playing on the baseball team. On June 17, 1947 Jerold was united in marriage to Gail Kadolph at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and they remained in Hardin County where they farmed, milking Registered Brown Swiss.




He was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served on various committees. He was also formerly a member of the Knights of Columbus, a past president and director of the Farm Bureau, vice-president of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association, a former 4-H leader, and had served two terms as president of the Steamboat Rock School Board. He enjoyed travel, touring all 50 states, and several foreign countries including Ireland. He was a loving father and grandfather, and the highlight of each summer was the annual Lawler reunion-Christmas gathering.




Surviving is Jerold’s wife, Gail; sons, Patrick (Clara) Lawler of Gravois Mills, Missouri, James (Carolyn) Lawler of Antelope, California, Joseph (Ethel) Lawler of Sparta, New Jersey, Daniel (Roberta) Lawler of Bettendorf, Kenneth (Angela) Lawler of Altoona, Mathew (Jean) Lawler of Mt. Pleasant, Mark (Pamela) Lawler of Mt. Morris, Illinois, and Myron (Gloria) Lawler of Coulter; and by seventeen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Andrew; brothers, Dale and Lawrence Lawler; and sister, Anna Mae Riley.
