Irma Delfs

Irma M. Delfs, 90, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Friday, March 12, 2010, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care in Grundy Center, Iowa, while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor Beth Olson officiating.Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery rural Gladbrook. Visitation will be Monday, March 15, 2010, at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, Iowa, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice or American Lutheran Church both in Grundy Center.

Irma was born in Jubilee, Iowa on December 13, 1919, the daughter of John Lena and Melinda Charlotte (Nolting) Weltzin. Irma was baptized by Rev. W.F. Adix in Jubilee, Iowa. She was confirmed on March 25, 1934 in Denver, Iowa by Rev. Fred Schoenbohm. She attended school in Denver, Iowa. On June 4, 1939, Irma was united in marriage with Elmer John Delfs in Spring Valley, MN. To this union five children were born, Audrey, Karen, Gary, Steven and Irma. Irma and Elmer lived and farmed for many years on a farm south of Grundy Center.

Irma has been a member of American Lutheran Church and was an active member of the Rose Circle. She was a homemaker, worked at the library, was seamstress making wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses and a lot of her children's clothes. Irma was an avid card player and loved to dance and bake.

She is survived by three children, Gary, Steven (Pat) and Irma Venenga; 10 grandchildren; Lisa Aguon, Mike Heideman, Susan DeVries, Amy(Austin) Hinders, Dinann Delfs, Amanda (Faud) Machado, Scott(Sandie) Delfs, Chad (Jody) Delfs, Kristin Delfs and Sheri Venenga; sixteen great-grandchildren; Mitch(Traci) Turner, Jessica, Paul and Cearra Aguon, Kyle and Kraig DeVries, Haylee, Dylan and Devin Hinders, Arianna and Jade Machado, Chelsea, Zachary, Parker Delfs, Courtney and Caden Delfs; 4 great-great grandchildren: Matthew DeVries, Isabella Turner, Ethan and Dylan Bartimus and special friends: Michelle Tegler, Jill Ratliff and Elaine Hartke.

She was preceded in death by her parents; John and Melinda Weltzin; husband, Elmer; two daughters, Karen and Audrey; grandson, Duane Delfs.
