Henrietta Mutch

Henrietta Viola Mutch, 95, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away of natural causes, Friday, March 5, 2010, at Grundy Care Center. She celebrated her 95th birthday in August 2009. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center with Pastor Tom Bower officiating. Burial to will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation will be from 5 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Memorials may be made to Cedar Valley Hospice or Bethany Presbyterian Church in Henrietta's name.


Henrietta Viola Petersen Mutch was born on the family farm in Lincoln Township on August 17, 1914, the youngest daughter of Henry and Antje "Annie" (Dieken) Petersen. She attended rural Lincoln school #9 and graduated from the 8th grade in 1928. She then attended Grundy Center High School and graduated in 1932. On February 27, 1937, Henrietta was united in marriage with Harold Mutch in the Parsonage of Bethany Presbyterian Church. In 1952 Harold and Henrietta purchased the Coast to Coast Hardware Store in Grundy Center. Henrietta retired in 1980. Henrietta has been a life long member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. She was a member of BPW, First Towners, Card Club, Grundy Center Womans Club, Bethany Woman's Association, and Naomi Circle. She is survived by two sons, James and wife Eileen (Barchus) Mutch; and Kenneth and wife Jane (Folkerts) Mutch both of Grundy Center, IA; five grandchildren; Bill and wife Shari(Simms), of Des Moines; Brian and wife Leah(Smith) of Oregon; Brant and wife Alison (Jahn) of Des Moines; Jenny and husband Brian Buehler of Odebolt, and Cory and wife Brandy(Gifford),of Charles City; eight great-grandchildren; Briana, Grant, Connor, Devin, Schuyler, Bryce, Jillian, and Addison. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Annie Petersen; stepmother Minnie (Pabst) Petersen; husband, Harold; two grandsons Courtland Lee and Jayson William, her brother, Ubbie and sister, Emma Stachour.
