Henrietta Johnson

Henrietta Johnson, 77, of Wellsburg, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Allen Memorial Hospital of natural causes. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 30 th 10:00 A.M. at the Austinville Christian Reformed Church, 31871 2 nd St. Austinville, IA with Pastor Jonathan Spronk officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 29 th from 5 to 7 P.M. at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. Burial will follow funeral services at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Austinville.




Henrietta was born on October 3, 1932 in Ackley, Iowa, the daughter of Engelburtus and Gertie (Bunk) Abbas. She was raised on the family farm and attended school in Ackley, graduating from Ackley High School. She met John H. Johnson and the two were united in marriage on May 12, 1959 in Ackley. The couple moved to a farm outside of Aplington and born to the couple were 6 children, but raised 7 children. After years of farming north of Aplington, they moved to a farm east of Ackley where he continued farming. When John retired from farming, the couple relocated back to Aplington, IA. Henrietta moved to Wellsburg in 2007.




She enjoyed working on family genealogy, crafts including crocheting and quilting, music, singing, playing piano, gardening, e-mailing family photos and most importantly loved to spend time with her family, especially on Christmas.




She is survived by her children Brenda (Leon) Abels of Wellsburg, Darwin (Zosima) Johnson of Allen, TX, Janele (Roger) Fish of Eldora, IA, Sharon (Joe D.) Reents of Wellsburg, Denise (Mike) Reents of Wellsburg, Randy Johnson of Grundy Center and Greg Abbas of Kesley, IA; grandchildren Brian (Kim) Abels, Scott Abels, Brent (Amanda) Lloyd & Jason Lloyd, Nick & Clint Reents and B.J. & Tanner Reents; sisters Remda Geerdes of Ankeny and Bertha Bishop of Denver, IA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Henrietta was preceded in death by her husband John H. Johnson; brothers Arend, George and Fred Abbas; sisters Alice Van Heiden, Lucille Plutschouw and an infant sister.
