Henrietta Beenken, 87, of Grundy Center, Iowa



Henrietta Beenken, 87, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died of natural causes, October 28, 2005 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Monday, October 31, 2005, at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastors Kent Leydens officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 30, 2005 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, with family present to greet friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Henrietta was born November 30, 1917, in Grundy Center, Iowa, daughter of John and Tena (Rieter) Korthous. She was raised and educated in Grundy County, Iowa where she graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1935. Henrietta was united in marriage to Charles W. Beenken at her parent?s home in Grundy Center on November 1, 1936. The couple lived most of their married life in Grundy County, moving to Grundy Center in June of 1952. Henrietta was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church. She sang in many churches and nursing homes. She enjoyed camping, sewing and loved to crochet.

She is survived by 4 children: Shirley Owings and her husband Frank of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Larry Beenken and his wife Sharon of Rogers, Arkansas, Ronald Beenken and his wife Linda formerly of Ames, Iowa, and Jocelyn Dostal and her husband Randy of Homosassa, Florida; 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; a daughter in law: Joan Beenken of Bentonville, Arkansas.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles on January. 19, 1986, a son: Charles Beenken Jr., 2 granddaughters Lori and Hope Beenken, and 1 great grandson Jason Beenken, 3 brothers: Fred, Harm and John Korthous and 2 sisters: Anna Mae Garcia and an infant Anna Bell Korthous.
