Helen Marie Roling, 86 of Eldora, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at the Eldora Nursing & Rehab Center while under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora, with Rev. Paul Baldwin, Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Eldora. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. A rosary service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family.


Helen was born on May 4, 1924 in Hardin County, Iowa, the daughter of Joe and Susie (Reed) Dole. She received her elementary and secondary education in the Steamboat Rock and Owasa schools. She was employed by the Graham Department Store in Eldora until she was united in marriage to Ted Roling at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Eldora in 1945. She lived in the Eldora area for most of her married life and was active in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and serving as a Religious Education Instructor, sharing her faith by preparing second graders for their first communion for 17 years. She was loved by all who knew her and adored by her family.


Helen is survived by her husband Ted; her eight children, Jim (Joyce) Roling of Columbia City, IN; Dennis (Patricia) Roling of Holly Lake Ranch, TX; Judy (Robert) Gunderson of Gifford, IA; Linda (Jim) Tazzioli of West Des Moines, IA; Jerry (Marti) Roling of Cedar Falls, IA; Teresa Roling (Mark Wilts) of Marshalltown, IA; Peg (Tom)Landmesser of Henderson, NE and Mark (Adela) Roling of Knightdale, NC; her sixteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; her three brothers and three sisters. She is preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
