Harriette Hippen

Harriette Ina Hippen, 98, of Wellsburg, Iowa, died Wednesday January 23, 2008, at The Presbyterian Village in Ackley, Iowa.

Harriette was born November 14, 1909, in Brodhead, Wisconsin, the daughter of Eli and Anna (Stevens) Hutzell. At a young age Harriette's family moved to the Eldora, Iowa area, where she graduated from high school. On August 7, 1933 she was united in marriage to Herman Hippen in Rockford, Illinois. They made their home in Wellsburg. Harriette and Herman owned and operated Hippen Tire and Battery in Wellsburg. Harriette enjoyed reading, ceramics, flower gardening, keeping house plants, and socializing with friends and family. Harriette took great pride in being a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is survived by her daughters Annabelle Penning of Wellsburg, and Beverly and her husband LaVern Van Hauen of Cedar Falls; son Herman Jr. and his wife Jolene Hippen of Wellsburg; nine grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Herman; daughter Joyce Potgeter; son Frank Hippen; grandson Terry Penning; sons - in - law Vernon Penning and Jim Potgeter; brothers Glen Hutzell and Robbie Hutzell and sister Lola Hutzell.
