Hannabel Moore

October 28, 1914 — May 1, 2011

Hannabel Moore, 96, of Grundy Center, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, IA while under the care of the Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 5th, 10:30 am at the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center with Pastor Terry Plocher officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow funeral services at Rosehill Cemetery in Grundy Center.

Hannabel was born October 28, 1914, in Albia, Iowa, the youngest child of James and Mabel Retta (Bain) Gray. She graduated from Albia High School in 1921, and taught rural school in Monroe County before her marriage to Ralph Leland Moore on June 6, 1936. Ralph and Hannabel purchased a farm in Grundy County, Iowa, and were engaged in farming until 1984 when they retired. Hannabel was a member of the Grundy Center Women's Club, Lincoln Township Homemakers, Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church and the First Presbyterian Church. She was active in the local American Cancer Society, Hawkeye Valley Area on Aging Council and served as the "Welcome Lady" for Grundy Center for many years.

She was much loved by her daughters Eloise (Gerald) Monk of Grundy Center, Dr. Mary Moore of Riverside, CA and Ruth (Kent) Beiner of Dike, Iowa. She is also survived by four grandchildren G. Andrew Monk (Michelle) of Arlington Heights, IL, Jesse (Sherri) Monk of Marion, IA, Rubyana (Matt) Neely of Dallas Center, IA and Joben Grimmius of Chicago, IL and step-granddaughter Brandy (Wade) Schott of West Union, IA; ten great-grandchildren Zachary, Jordan, Alyanna, Nathaniel, Calissa, Sophia & Joseph Monk, Kenton Beiner and Layla & Bowen Schott; 1 sister-in-law Gertrude Craig of Grundy Center. She dearly loved her many Stewart, Moore and Wilkin nieces and nephews.

Hannabel was preceded in death by her husband Ralph; her parents; brother Ernest Gray and sisters Edna Gray, Myrtle Moore, Lois Stewart and Florence Wilkin.
