Gertrude Bernice Getting, 87, of Grundy Center, Iowa, died Wednesday November 9, 2005, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, November 14, 2005, at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, in rural Holland, Iowa, with Pastor Larry Hoop officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family greeting friends the entire time Sunday, November 13, 2005, at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established.
Gertie was born April 5, 1918 in Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of Ben and Fannie (Franken) Buskohl. Gertie attended Colfax #5 country school until the 8th grade. The school was across the road from the family farm, but Gertie would not attend school without her brother Jake. On September 11, 1941 she was united in marriage to Harvey Getting at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. Harvey passed away March 1, 2004. Gertie was a lifelong member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, and the Women?s Society for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harvey; parents: Ben and Fannie Buskohl; and a brother: Jake Buskohl.
Survivors include her nieces and nephews: Ben Buskohl of Bloomer, Wisconsin, Jeanne Buskohl of North Hollywood, California, Mark and wife Nancy Buskohl of Grundy Center, Iowa, Ila and husband Dale Wiersma of Holland, Michigan, Harley and wife Jeri Getting of Hibbing, Minnesota, Jim and wife Brenda Getting of Grundy Center, Iowa, and Jerry and wife Lori Schoolman of Holland, Iowa, great nieces and nephews: Sara and Nathan Wiersma, Todd and Keri Schoolman, Caleb and wife Candace Buskohl, and Philip Buskohl.
