Jennie Fern Hinshaw, 99, of Eldora, Iowa died from natural causes at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford, Iowa on Tuesday, November 25, 2008.
Fern was born January 18, 1909 in Eldora, Iowa, daughter of Frank Barton and Tamar Ann (Eggelston) Arnold. She grew up in the Eldora, Whitten area graduating from the Whitten High School in 1927. On January 10, 1945 she was united in marriage to Harvey D. Hinshaw. The couple farmed east of Eldora where they raised their daughters Barbara and Patricia. Fern enjoyed sewing and canning for the family. Fern served as a 4-H leader, she was a member of the United Methodist Church where she was on a church circle. She also was a member of the Benson Cemetery Society in Whitten, and the Eldora Historical Society. The couple loved to travel the country in their motor homes. They visited every state except for New Jersey and Hawaii. Fern moved from Valley View Nursing and Rehab into the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in 2007.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Ann and her husband Bart Kemery of St. Louis, Missouri, and Patricia and her husband Jim Wilhelm of Dayton, Iowa; grandchildren, Elizabeth Kemery Sipes, Jennifer Kemery Couch, Michael DeWitt Kemery, Matthew Dennis Maas, and Amanda Maas Wallace; great grandchildren, Mackenzie Couch, Jayden Kemery, Madelyn Kemery, and Keelie Maas. She was preceded in death by her parents; and grand-daughter Rebecca Lynne Kemery; and two brothers George and Walter Arnold.
