Edward D. Hildebrand, 81, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Friday, August 26, 2005, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa, of natural causes. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, August 29, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church in Reinbeck, Iowa, with Pastor Randy McGrady-Beach officiating. Following cremation, private family burial will occur at a later date. Visitation will be Sunday, August 28, 2005, from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., at French Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck, Iowa where the family will be present the entire time to greet friends. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Edward was born March 6, 1924, at home on the farm in rural Reinbeck, Iowa, the son of Lyle and Mildred (Moeller) Hildebrand. Edward received his education in Reinbeck and graduated from Reinbeck High School. Two weeks after his high school graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army, serving his country during WWII, from July 1943 to March 1946, when he was honorably discharged. On July 10, 1948, Edward was united in marriage to Millie Rush at the First Presbyterian Church Parsonage in Reinbeck. After their marriage they made Reinbeck their home. Edward worked for the light company in Reinbeck and also for Thomas Emmett at his gas station, and Moeller & Walter. In 1963, the family moved to Cedar Falls, and Edward continued to work as an auto mechanic, working for several area auto dealerships, until retiring in 1994. Edward loved to dance and to fish.

He is survived by his wife Millie Hildebrand of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two daughters Diane Bell and her husband Clyde of Manchester, Iowa; Sue Griffith and her husband Emery of Cedar Falls, Iowa; three sons Dan Hildebrand of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Dale Hildebrand and his special friend Jane Remley of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and Darrin Hildebrand and his wife Linda of Cedar Falls, Iowa; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; and one brother Lyle ?Jr.? Hildebrand of Waterloo, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson Zachary Hildebrand; one nephew Randy Rains; and one sister Darlene Rains.
