Duane Sparenborg, 75, of Grundy Center died from natural causes on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at St. Anthony Medical Center in Crown Point, Indiana. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, August 22, 2005, at American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor Paul Schaedig officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center with full military rites provided by Post #349 of the American Legion and the AMVETS Post #17. Visitation is from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, August 21, 2005 at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center.
Duane was born April 28, 1930 in Grundy Center, Iowa, son of Warner and Ruth (Rhinesmith) Sparenborg. He was raised in Grundy Center where he graduated from high school in 1948. On July 27, 1954 Duane was united in marriage to Leona Mae Voss at the Lutheran Parsonage in Grundy Center. Duane served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Duane worked at Spokesman Press until he retired in 1992. Duane was a member of the American Legion Post #349, AMVETS Post #17, and the American Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his son Barry and his wife Terri Sparenborg of Crown Point, Indiana; sister Joan Middleton of Grand Forks, North Dakota; and five grandchildren, Kristin, Michael, Alissa, Brandon, and Justin. He is preceded by his wife, Leona; his parents; daughter-in-law Rebecca Ann Sparenborg; and brother Warner Sparenborg Jr.
