Dorothy Hayungs

Dorothy R. Hayungs, 91, of Holland, Iowa, died Saturday, October 1, 2005, at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, October 4, 2005, at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor David Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Visitation will be Monday, October 3, 2005 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A memorial fund has been established. Dorothy was born April 10, 1914, in Marble Rock, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Niklas) Nixt. She graduated from Marble Rock High School in 1932. On December 28, 1935, Dorothy was united in marriage to Karl Hayungs in Webster City, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived in rural Marble Rock and the surrounding area. In 1954, they moved to Holland, Iowa, where they purchased a restaurant, and named it Karl?s CafAsh. Karl died on August 8, 1966, but Dorothy continued to operate the restaurant until her retirement.

Dorothy was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center.

Dorothy loved working in the garden and had a great love for flowers and ?digging in the dirt.? She also enjoyed nature and cooking; loved cats, and was an avid bowler.

She is survived by four daughters C. Marie Ennenga and her husband Donald of Holland, Iowa; Francys Harms and her husband Bernerd of Wellsburg, Iowa; Carol Smith and her husband Gary of Lincoln, Iowa;

Karla Hayungs of Waterloo, Iowa; one daughter-in-law Maxine Hayungs of Holland, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one sister Helen Welch of Marble Rock, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Karl in 1966; two sons Earl and Frank Hayungs; two grandchildren Chandra Smith and Lisa Hayungs; one great-grandson Clint Heikens; one brother Frank Nixt and one brother in infancy; and two sisters Marian Smith and Virginia Kolbet
