Donna Zimple

June 30, 1932 — February 18, 2006

Donna Mae Zimple of Dike, formerly of Traer, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006 at her home while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice having attained the age of 73 years, 7 months, and 18 days.



Donna was born on June 30, 1932, in Traer, Iowa, the daughter of Melvin W. and Hazel Elizabeth "Betty" Scott. She graduated from Traer High School in 1951 and married Herbert "Wayne" Zimple on August 11, 1951 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Three children were born to this union. Wayne passed away May 15, 1967. Donna graduated from Hawkeye Tech as a LPN in 1969. She did private duty nursing, worked at

Traer Convalescent Home, and later at Roberts Waterloo Care Center for 8 years. In 1978 Donna moved to Des Moines where she was employed as a counselor in the Highland Park Group Home for Polk County Association of Retarded Citizens/Links Associates. She graduated from Des Moines Area Community College as Residential Administrator and became Administrator of that group home. She held many positions

later changing to teaching the mentally challenged to live independently in the community , retiring in 1996 to Dike, IA.



Donna was a member of the Dike United Methodist Church, past president of the Dike UMW, Dike American Legion Auxiliary, Methodist Morning Prayer Group, all three church circles, the Grant Township Homemakers Club, and the Dike Senior Citizens. Donna enjoyed her family, church, sewing, crafts, cooking and was an avid cookbook collector accumulating well over 4,000 cookbooks.



She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wayne; her parents; stepfather John Kriegel; a sister, Carol Nadine, in infancy; and two brothers, Ronald Ray and Nickolas James Kriegel.



Survivors include her loving children, Colleen Rae and Joe Kelly of St. Paul, MN, Dave and Brenda Zimple of Badger, IA, and Scott and Jody Zimple of Dike. Also her precious grandchildren, Stephanie Lynn Zimple of Waterloo, Heather Ann Zimple of Dike, Melinda Sue and Ryan Kuker of Fort Dodge, and Casey Wayne Zimple of Dike; great-grandchildren Leila Ann Staton, Althea Kuker and two more expected. She also leaves two brothers, Gordon and Ruth Scott of Cedar Rapids and Mike and Chris Kriegel of Toledo and a sister-in-law, Jeanie Kriege1 of Tama; a sister-in-law, Alice Zimple, of Traer; and several nieces and nephews.
