David Hess

August 9, 1946 — January 7, 2006

David L. Hess, 59, of Eldora, died at his home from natural causes on Saturday, January 7, 2006. Following cremation, memorial services will be held at 1:30 PM, Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Eldora with Pastor Michael Baltich and Pastor Conrad Lundberg from the First Baptist Church in Marshalltown officiating. David's family will be receiving friends on Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.



He was born August 9, 1946, in Eldora, son of F. Clarence and Lois R. (Benson) Hess, and graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1964. He was a Vietnam Veteran serving with the Navy aboard the supply ship, USS Firedrake. He was honorably discharged in 1966 then attended Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls. David later received his BA in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa. On August 2, 1968 he was married to Nancy Channel in Liscomb and they later divorced.



David worked for Dayco Corporation in Eldora for over 28 years and for the Stockdale Corporation of Iowa Falls for the past 10 years. He did part-time seasonal work for several years at Northrup King Seeds in Eldora and for Accu-Tax in Marshalltown. David stayed busy as a handy man, landscaping and doing home repair jobs for family and friends. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marshalltown where he served as a trustee and volunteered with the lawn mowing. He enjoyed playing cards, pool, and golf.



Surviving are his sons, Robert "Rob" Brian Hess of Moline, Illinois and Mathew "Matt" David Hess of Geneseo, Illinois; his parents Lois and Clarence Hess of Eldora; sisters, Joan (Larry) Harter of Lexington, Ohio, Loretta (Shorty) Reinertson of Eldora, and Angie (Jeff) Waterhouse of Parker, Colorado; brothers, Mike (Joyce) Hess of Iowa Falls and John (Kathy) Hess of Eldora; granddaughters, Mikala and Jessica, special friend, Mandy Abernathy; and by several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Robert and Gladys Hess; and maternal grandparents, Louis and Rose Benson.
