Daniel D. Simon, 76, of Parkersburg, Iowa, died Saturday, September 26, 2009 at his home while under the care of the Cedar Valley Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Holy Family Parish Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Parkersburg, Iowa, with Father Dennis Quint officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Patrick's Cemetery in Parkersburg, Iowa. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 29, 2009, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with family present to greet friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Holy Family Parish Saint Patrick?s Catholic Church in Parkersburg with a Scriptural Wake Service beginning at 5:00 P.M. A memorial has been established. Daniel was born May 8, 1933, in Parkersburg, Iowa, the son of John and Jeanne (DuBois) Simon. He grew up in the Parkersburg area. He graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1953. He served his country in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. On May 28, 1960 he was united in marriage to Ella Jane Thomas in Hampton, Iowa. They made their home on a farm near Parkersburg. He was a member of the Holy Family Parish Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Parkersburg. He is survived by his son, Joe Simon and his wife Carrie of Grundy Center; two daughters, Danielle Voy and husband Kevin of Fairbank; Meg Fishler and husband Frank of Mt. Vernon; eight grandchildren; Brennen, Courtney, Lauren, Jillian Simon, Kyle, Elle, Kalle Voy and Gunnar Fishler. Brothers and sisters, Ray Simon of Hampton; Pauline Engelking and husband Dr. David of Springfield, MO; Donald Simon and his wife Dorothy of Waterloo; Vern Simon and his wife MaryAnn of Parkersburg; Russ Simon and his wife Janee of Parkersburg and Sally Simon of Rockford; long time family friend, Carol Ann Huisman of Parkersburg and many nieces and nephews.Hewas preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jane; brother, John Simon; five sisters: Helen Terwilliger, Marguerite Fisher, Doris Evert, Darlene Smith and Simone Simon at infancy
