Cleo Jarrard

February 6, 1909 — January 28, 2005

Cleo R. Jarrard, 95, of Ellerton, Florida, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Friday morning, January 28, 2005, at Cordia Commons, an assisted living facility where he had been residing for the last 7 months, in Bradenton, Florida. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 1, 2005, at First Baptist Church in Grundy Center, Iowa. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center, Iowa. Visitation will be Tuesday morning at First Baptist Church in Grundy Center, from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Memorials may be made to the building fund at the First Baptist Church, 1020 4th Street W, Palmetto, FL 34221.

Cleo and his twin brother Leo were born February 6, 1909 in Louisa County Iowa, to Frank and Fannie (Wall) Jarrard. They were the youngest of five children.

Cleo graduated from Lone Tree Iowa High School in 1928 and then attended Iowa State Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa) in Cedar Falls before teaching country school for nine years.

He was united in marriage to Doris Pettit on October 12, 1929. They had two children, Carol Jeanne and George Clarence. Cleo worked for the Fuller Brush Company for several years before moving to Grundy County in 1941 where he farmed in Lincoln Twp. until his retirement in 1972. The Jarrards celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1979. They had been wintering in Florida for several years when the Lord called Doris home in January 1980.

In June 1982 Cleo and Martha Jane Rossi were married and shortly after made their permanent home in Florida.

Cleo was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center and later, the First Baptist Church, Palmetto FL.

Survivors include his wife Martha, one daughter Carol and husband Donald Olson of Ellenton, FL, daughter-in-law Yvonne Jarrard of Manchester, NH, one step-daughter Jean (Paul) Murzi, Bowling Green, KY, four granddaughters Kathryn Olson, Heidi (David) Mason, Tara (Jeff) Leake, and Nancy (Dave) Greenwood, two grandsons Steven Jarrard and Douglas Olson, and five great-grandchildren.

Cleo was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris, his son George, one sister and his three brothers
