Charles Harvey

Charles A. Harvey, 92, of Eldora , Iowa , lost his courageous battle with Mesothelioma on Sunday, July 4, 2010 while under the care of his family and Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at the Eldora United Methodist Church with Pastor James Key and Don Eichelberger officiating. Burial will follow in the Eldora City Cemetery with military honors provided by Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion and Roll-Harless Post 3974 of the VFW. Visitation is from 6 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora. Memorials may be directed to Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion or the American Cancer Society.





Charles Armstrong Harvey was born August 14, 1917 in Le Grand , Iowa , one of nine children born of Reverend Guy and Mary (Armstrong) Harvey. Charles graduated from Marshalltown High School then attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids . On September 14, 1940 he was united in marriage to Irene Nance in New Providence , Iowa and to this union were born children, Nancy, Bruce and Becky.





Charles was a professional painter by trade and he and Irene owned and operated Harvey ’s Home Decorating Store in Eldora for eighteen years. He enjoyed travel, golf and exercising, and was an avid reader of historical and current events. He especially loved his family and family get-togethers but hated having his picture taken. He loved his God and country and was proud of being a WWII veteran with the U.S. Navy serving in 1944 and 1945 as seaman first class.





He is survived by his wife, Irene; son, Bruce Harvey and his wife Nancy of Eldora; daughter, Becky Mills of Mesa, Arizona; sister, Virginia Bell of San Diego, California; and by five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Nancy Eichelberger; brothers, Roy, Guy, Robert, Ralph and Warren Harvey; and sisters, Gladys Bowman and Edyth Harbit.
