Cecil Rogers

May 12, 1916 — August 16, 2008

Cecil M. Rogers, 92, of New Providence, Iowa, died from natural causes on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Eldora. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at the Honey Creek New Providence Friends Church in New Providence with Pastor Arlen Daleske officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora with military honors provided by Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion and Roll-Harless Post 3974 of the VFW. Visitation is from 5 pm -8 pm on Wednesday at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora.




Cecil was born May 12, 1916 in New Providence, son of Forest and Sarah “Sadie” (McBride) Rogers. He grew up on the family farm outside of New Providence where he resided the majority of his life. He was a graduate of New Providence High School, and reported to service during WWII spending time in Louisiana as a Staff Sergeant in the Army. On December 6, 1941 Cecil was united in marriage to Eileen N. Johnson in Kirksville, Missouri. Cecil and Eileen enjoyed spending their summers in Minnesota but after Eileen’s death in 1988 Cecil began over-wintering in Texas. He owned and operated Lawn Hill Saw Mill and Cecil Rogers Tree Service officially retiring in 1971.




Cecil enjoyed fishing, playing cards and looking for bargains at garage sales. He was a member of Walter-Sayer Post 182 of the American Legion and Roll-Harless Post 3974 of the VFW.




He is survived by a son, Robert D. Rogers of Carroll, Iowa; daughter, Janis Smith and her husband Terry of New Providence; and granddaughter, Angela Smith of Omaha, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eileen; daughter, Nancy; and brother, Everett.
