Carolyn Niedermann

Carolyn B. Niedermann, 83, of Grundy Center, Iowa, formerly of rural Gladbrook, Iowa, died Saturday, January 15, 2005, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa, of natural causes. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, January 18, 2005, at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor David Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, rural Gladbrook, Iowa. Visitation will be Monday, January 17, 2005, from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., with the family present the entire time to greet friends, at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to Camp Sunnyside.

Carolyn was born October 16, 1921, at home in rural Gladbrook, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Benesh) Chesick. Carolyn received her education at school in Dinsdale. On June 1, 1938, Carolyn was united in marriage to Clarence Niedermann in the chapel at the Marshalltown Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa. Following their marriage they lived in several places in Tama County. In 1952, they moved to a farm near Lincoln, Iowa, and lived there until July 2000, when both Carolyn and Clarence made the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, their home. Clarence died on December 6, 2002, and Carolyn continued to make the Care Center her home. Together, Carolyn and Clarence celebrated sixty-four years of marriage together.

Carolyn and Clarence had been former active members of the Polka Club of America. Carolyn loved to sew and make ceramics. She also enjoyed flower gardening.

She is survived by three sons Earl Niedermann and his wife Ruth of Walker, Minnesota; Robert Niedermann and his wife Lois of Kingman, Kansas; Dale Niedermann and his wife Adela of Ankeny, Iowa; one daughter Janet Nelson and her husband Terry of Marshalltown, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; one sister Dorothy Barr of Ankeny, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clarence; one daughter Kathy McBride; four brothers Fred Chesick, Edward Chesick, Charles Chesick, James Chesick; six sisters Tillie Brezina, Helen Kasal, Emma Claussen, Amelia Kasal, Anna Chesick, and Mary Thomsen.
