Carl Christiansen

May 20, 1925 — December 9, 2009

Carl H. Christiansen, 84 of Reinbeck, formerly of Parkersburg, Iowa passed away, Wednesday, December 9, 2009 Grundy County Memorial Hospital, in Grundy Center, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, December 13, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Reinbeck with pastor Paul Shadig officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, December 12, 2009 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center and Sunday one hour prior to the celebration of life at United Methodist Church. Interment will be held privately.


Carl Christiansen was born on May 20, 1925 in Germany to his parents John and Anna Christiansen. His family relocated to the United States when Carl was 4 years old, settling in southern Iowa. Like many men of his generation Carl enlisted in Army Air Corps during World War II. After his service to his country Carl married his wife Beverly on April 26, 1947 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Carl and his wife Beverly lived Cedar Falls for 23 years and Parkersburg for 22 years having just recently moved to Reinbeck this year.


Carl was an avid bowler, golfer and loved to practice wood working. He was also fond of hunting. Carl especially loved to hunt for Morel mushrooms.


Carl is survived by his wife Beverly, his children Anna (Joel) Janssen and Gunther (Linda) Christiansen, his grandchildren Janelle, Ryan, Shelly, Kyle, Jacob, Aneika, and Randy, his great grandchildren Christian, Dallas, Delsin and Angelena, his sister in law Roberta Christiansen. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gunther Christiansen.
