Betty Jean Beninga, 79, of Dike, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa of natural causes. Betty was born February 17, 1930, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of John (Jack) and Dena (Kalkwarf) Webrand. Betty attended country school and then Dike High School graduating in 1948. On August 15, 1949 she was united in marriage to Bernard Harold Beninga at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church rural Grundy Center. The couple lived near the Lincoln Center Church for 6 years then moved 1 mile south of Stout until retirement when they moved to Parkersburg for 2 years before moving back to Dike. Betty was a member of the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church, the Dorcas Circle, Dike Senior Citizens Women's Connection, Overcomers, Ladies Fellowship and attended Adult Sunday School. Survivors include her 5 children: Eileen Beninga and Diane Ernst of Decorah, Les Beninga and friend Denise Craig of Stout, Jean and husband Leon Meester of Holland, Dean Beninga of Waterloo, Byron Beninga and wife Patty of Parkersburg; 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; 2 sister in laws: Rosella Beninga of Grundy Center and Marjorie Bergsma of Grand Rapids, Michigan; sister and brother in law: Delores and Don Main of Denver, Iowa. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bernard on May 14, 2004 a daughter: Sonia Derrick on May 14, 2001; a sister: Alice Kinney and a nephew John Lee.
