Bernard Switzer

Bernard James Switzer, 86, Liscomb, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 24, 2010, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in Marshalltown.

A private family funeral service was 1:00 P.M., Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Creps-Abels Funeral Home in Eldora with Pastor Jim Hartman officiating. Burial was held at the Liscomb Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Bernard was born June 02, 1924 in Hampton, Iowa, the son of William James and Lillian (Jones) Switzer. He was raised on a farm near Hansel, Iowa. Bernard graduated from Chapin High School. At the age of 18, he joined the Army serving in WWII with his twin brother, Leonard. They were both wounded in the South Pacific. After his discharge, Bernard was united in marriage to Doris Maxine Brown. To this union five children were born, Tim, Tom, Becky, Connie and Bill. Bernard was employed by Rock Island Railroad as an agent and telegraph operator for 21 years. He was later employed for 8 years by the Iowa Boys School in Eldora as a licensed High Steam Boiler, he worked 2 years at Lennox Industries in Marshalltown as Gate Security was a licensed Barber owning his own Barbershop for 10 years and later was owner and operator of several rental properties.

Bernard was a member of the Conrad American Legion in Conrad. Bernard loved music as he played the guitar for a number of dance bands in Iowa and Minnesota for the enjoyment and the extra money.

He is survived by his children, Tim Switzer of Marshalltown, Iowa, Tom Switzer and Becky Mulinix both of Liscomb, Connie McStockard and Bill Switzer both of Whitten, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren .
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Doris; 2 brothers, Leonard (his identical twin), Clinton ; 3 sisters, Veryle Remmert, Mildred Bradley and Faye Vohier
