Alvin W. Lindaman, 77, of Wellsburg, Iowa, died Friday, November 4, 2005, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Memorial services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 7, 2005, at East Friesland Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley, Iowa, with Pastor Bruce Baillie and Lay Pastor Lynn Arends officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Wellsburg AMVETS Post No. 91 and the American Legion Post No. 213. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 6, 2005, from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., at Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. A memorial fund has been established.



Alvin was born June 2, 1928, in Wellsburg, Iowa, the son of William H. and Ida (Riebkes) Lindaman. On January 11, 1951, Alvin enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War, receiving the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on October 10, 1952. On June 4, 1953, Alvin was united in marriage to Betty Friedrich at East Friesland Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley. Alvin farmed for several years in rural Wellsburg, and in 1968, the family moved to town, and Alvin and his father took over the family lumberyard, H. Lindaman and Sons. In 1986, they closed the business. Alvin was a member of East Friesland Presbyterian Church, where he had served as a Deacon and Trustee. He was an active wildlife conservationist, who loved to fish, and he was also an avid Chicago Cubs Fan.

He is survived by his wife Betty Lindaman of Wellsburg, Iowa; one daughter Gail Peterson and her husband Chuck of Westville, Oklahoma; two sons Gary Lindaman and his wife Mary Jane of Tulsa, Oklahoma; William Lindaman and his wife Kathy of Tulsa, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters Lois Sanderson of Conrad, Iowa; Arlene Heetland and her husband Dale of Ackley, Iowa; and Marjorie Sweet and her husband Richard of Waterloo, Iowa; and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents William H. and Ida Lindaman.
