Alice Lorenz

January 21, 1916 — February 15, 2010




Alice Lorenz, 94, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Monday, February 15, 2010, at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck, Iowa. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 20, 2010, at French Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck, Iowa, with Pastor Joel Love officiating. Burial will follow in the Reinbeck Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Parkview Manor Memorial Fund, 1009 3rd St. Reinbeck, or Union United Church of Christ in Reinbeck, IA.





Alice was born January 21, 1916, in Lincoln, Iowa, the daughter of Julius and Lillian Staker. She grew up on a farm near Lincoln; she graduated from the eighth grade at Grant #9 school in Tama County. She married Lester Lorenz on March 12, 1936 and worked with him on the farm. She was a very hard worker, loved animals and children. Alice was member of the Union United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. She was an excellent cook, raised a huge garden and made beautiful afghans and quilts for all her children and grandchildren. Alice volunteered her skills in making beautiful crafts at Parkview Manor for many years before residing there. She loved to fish and was noted for catching one of the largest Northerns in Grundy County. She was very devoted to her children and grandchildren and loved to bake cookies for them, do puzzles and play games with them. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her and especially by her family.





She is survived by her two children, Gayle Lorenz and his wife Patricia of Hudson, IA; Shirley Stewart of Cedar Rapids, IA; 10 grandchildren Gary Lorenz, Sheri Arnold, Jeffrey Lorenz, Steve Lorenz, Angela Huntington, Brian Stewart, Grant Stewart, David Stewart, Mark Stewart and Scott Stewart;20 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.





She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lester; granddaughter, Kelly Anne Stewart; great granddaughter, Jennifer Lorenz; great grandson, John Russell Lorenz; 13 brothers and sisters, Fred, Harry, Roy, Irvin, Harold, Alvin, Louis and Wilbur Staker; Mabel Boege, Dala Hulme, Edna Beckwith, Alma Barfels and baby girl Staker.





The family extends a special thanks to the staff at Parkview Manor who have takeb such special care of her all these years.
